A) I am not a customer and I want my bank account information removed or deleted.
If you did not complete your application or were not approved, Petal automatically deletes your bank connection.
B) I am a current customer and I have an active bank account I'd like to remove.
To use Petal, we require you to have at least one active bank account connected to your Petal account. Connecting your active financial accounts also helps you get the best experience possible the lowest rates at Petal. If you're approved, connecting your bank accounts also let you see the balance you have in your connected accounts so it’s easier to make responsible and informed decisions when using and making payments towards your Petal balance. We don't recommend removing bank connection.
However, if you’d still like to remove it, email us at email@example.com and we'll review your request.
C) I am a current customer and I have an inactive bank account I'd like to remove.
Do you have other accounts with the same bank that are currently open? For example, did you close just your savings account, but still use the checking account with the same bank?
i) No, all of the accounts within this bank are either closed or inactive.
You got it—send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know you have an inactive financial institution that you’d like to disconnect from your Petal account. In your email, be sure to give us the institution name (i.e. Bank of America) and specify that all of your accounts with that institution are inactive so we can disconnect it.
ii) Yes, I have other open accounts with that institution.
When you connect your bank or financial institution to Petal, your bank sends us details about all of the accounts you have open with that bank or institution. The connection is made at the institution level which means we’re connecting your Petal account to your bank or other financial institution as a whole. We are able to see all accounts you have open with that institution and aren’t able to choose which ones to add or remove.
Here’s an example: you have a Chase account that you’ve connected to Petal. You have two cards connected to that account—an old Chase Freedom card you don’t use anymore and an active Chase Sapphire Preferred account. Since you don’t use the Chase Freedom account, you want it removed from your dashboard. But because it’s a part of your Chase account as a whole, we can’t remove one account and not the other without removing the entire institution connection.
We know this is complicated and can look a bit messy, so we've added the ability to hide accounts as a feature on our product roadmap. We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop when it’s live.
Lastly, if you’re interested in removing the full connection to your institution or bank, email us at email@example.com and we can review your request.
